Tbh, as a desktop OS, it actually surpasses Linux: https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/desktop/worldwideEven though Macs predate Windows, more people use Windows over any other operating system these days so I don't thin Mac OS will ever surpass Windows. Heck I don't even see it surpassing Linux or it's many flavors.
I 100% agree.Tbh, as a desktop OS, it actually surpasses Linux: https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/desktop/worldwide
While it has a loud and passionate community, Linux isn’t as large as a desktop OS as they think they are.
Though to caveat that, it is used as a custom OS for a lot of hardware, especially in the enterprise market. So if you buy something like a NAS, you’re using Linux, but it’s not the same as using it as a desktop OS.
I think when you’re insulated in a certain community, it can give you an impression that something is more popular than it actually is or vice versa.I 100% agree.
If you went to an Android forum for example that's thriving it will definitely seem like a popular choice when in reality Apple is very popular too and it's based on personal preference so you're right and I like your view point 🙂I think when you’re insulated in a certain community, it can give you an impression that something is more popular than it actually is or vice versa.
My "favorites" are the PC gamers whose hobbies all involve them sitting behind their desk, and they think the world revolves around that. "Why would anyone have a TV? You can do that on your computer", "why do I need a tablet? I'm already at my computer". etc etc.If you went to an Android forum for example that's thriving it will definitely seem like a popular choice when in reality Apple is very popular too and it's based on personal preference so you're right and I like your view point 🙂
I think Apple knows their target audience is in the creative arts industry, and not really focused on not being #1. I do wish PC gamers would stop referencing “rich people” when most gamers rigs cost more than the average Mac.I doubt Apple will ever truly win the percentage battle simply due to how much of the world is poor and that is not a market Apple is aimed at. Like how Android crushes Apple in the mobile market, but most of that is the poorer side of the world. This is also reinforced by Apple still being unable to truly dominate any of the richer markets either. They are not winning in the market they focus on and have little to no chance of winning in the much larger market that they aren't aimed at. The bigger threat to Windows and Android is Linux in my opinion as it is capable of a 1:1 battle for market shares, but for the time being, both seem very safe from that at the moment.
I fully agree with you there.I think Apple knows their target audience is in the creative arts industry, and not really focused on not being #1. I do wish PC gamers would stop referencing “rich people” when most gamers rigs cost more than the average Mac.
I doubt Linux would win, as one of the things Linux is “supposed” to be against is commercialism. Outside enterprise versions, companies like Canonical are criticized for becoming commercial.
Linux fragmentation is also not helping.
I agree with you on that, but I meant "rich" as basically everyone in the United States and Europe essentially (and of course some other places). The 1st world is vastly outnumbered by those who cannot afford to choose the phone brand they get to own.I think Apple knows their target audience is in the creative arts industry, and not really focused on not being #1. The rich people comment was based more on my common experience with PC gamers, which is ironic when their GPU alone costs more than the average Mac user’s computer. It’s like the computer equivalent of saying a Mercedes driver is flaunting his wealth, but that guy with the more expensive F150 Platinum isn’t.I agree with you on that, but I meant "rich" as basically everyone in the United States and Europe essentially (and of course some other places). Linux on the other hand is entirely true, the OS does more harm than good to itself to becoming a mainstream OS. I know many people jump behind the Steamdeck helping to push Linux into the market, but I'm not entirely sold that a game console will cause other software devs to start making Linux apps for the computer OS.
Are we talking about computers or game consoles? If it’s game consoles, Xbox has never outsold PlayStation.Personally, I don't see it happening with Apple beating Microsoft in the next 50 years if we are still here. Most people are making use of Windows, it's only few that are making use of Apple products. It's same thing Sony tried to beat Microsoft but that's not going to happen.
