Is the X app finally dead?

It was dead the second Elon, I don't know what I'm doing, Musk, bought the whole service. I give it a few more years before its all gone.
I agree, X is going downhill quick.

For example,
Hashtags don’t work anymore either and apparently if you post links, most of your followers don’t see the posts.

  • Elon Musk says a lot of us are doing it wrong when it comes to posting links on X.
  • He says people should write a description in their main post, followed by the link in a reply.
  • Musk says this will stop "lazy linking." If you have any idea what that even means, please let me know!
For anyone who posts links on X, it's been intuitively clear that since Elon Musk took over, posts with links don't get the same reach as they used to.

The platform was better when Musk wasn’t running it. You’re only able to reach a bigger audience if you’re a paid subscriber, which isn’t a good thing when it pertains to social media.

I wouldn't say it is fully dead but it is for sure dying to an extent. Most have moved over to Bluesky and I have created an account on there myself.

Elon has simply made it clear that with his moves that if one doesn't have money, they shouldn't bother about subscribing, and that is what a lot of people are now getting worried about. The active users are still there, but the experience is not smooth for those who are yet to subscribe to the bluetick.

I'm not going to lie, I'm happy it's dying. I'm not a fan of Elon Musk and he really did this to himself when he had more relaxed moderation. I'm just surprised it didn't die sooner honestly.

I previously used Twitter a lot, but haven't used it at all other than for work purposes in the last 6 months or so. In my view, it's become so full of toxicity and hatred and so lax on moderation that it's really not a suitable place to be frequenting anymore.

I just made an X professional account for my page and it is definitely not dead.
There used to be much more engagement, but it’s changed significantly.

The platform once displayed real-time tweets, but now the timeline is split between “For You” and “Following” tabs. You also see older tweets, sometimes from days or weeks ago. This only started happening after Musk took over.

There’s also a lot more bots on the platform than ever before.

It's going to be his loss if that happens. He knows how much he paid to acquire ownership of the social media platform.
Musk and his investors have already lost a total of $25 billion from purchasing Twitter.

According to the most recent available numbers, which we’ll get to in a bit, Musk and his co-investors have lost more than $25 billion on their Twitter takeover. That’s right. More than $25,000,000,000.

How can I know that when X is a private company that doesn’t release financial results? It’s because Musk’s coinvestors include the Fidelity group of mutual funds. Fidelity, you see, is required to value its funds' holdings in X at their market value rather than at their cost because investors buy and sell mutual fund shares based on the shares’ net asset value.

According to Fidelity's financial filings, its funds' stake in X has fallen almost 80% in value since the Musk takeover. For example, Fidelity’s Contrafund (FCNTX) valued its stake at $53,469,000 when Twitter morphed into X in October of 2022 but valued that stake at only $11,383,550 as of Sept. 30, the most recent available number.

It's probably important to note that while Twitter/X's value has decreased, Musk hasn't actually "lost" that money as such, as he's never likely to sell Twitter (or is highly unlikely to) given that he will never recoup even half of what he paid for it. Maybe a moot point, but it was always a kind of spur of the moment meme purchase for Elon anyway, evidenced by the fact that he tried to back out and had to be taken to Court to go through with the deal.

That's a valid point about Musk's investment in X. It's likely that he'll hold onto it despite the decreased value, simply because selling it would be a significant loss. The fact that he tried to back out of the deal initially and had to be forced to follow through does suggest that it was an impulsive decision.

I will be the rebel commenter on here and say what X did was very good and Zuckerberg now kow-towing to free speech proves it.

And a lot of people are sick of a nanny state. Some also believe this nanny state is a Trojan horse to initiate genocide.

Anyway, though, I'm not supporter of hate speech or Trump's mouth but the whole WOKE thing is worse. It's all a con-job in the disguise of kindness.

Im with Jason on this... Elon was a breath of fresh air to twitter. He got rid of the left wing fact checkers and those playing political games with the platform. He cleaned house!
