So I've been a bit burnt out from art and burnt out from being burnt out. I want to make art but I just can't seem to find my muse so to speak. It seems a struggle to be creative. How do you handle creative burnout?

Hello, @Corsair

There are a couple of ways that a creative should be able to handle burnout.

Firstly is by taking a break. Halting creating can be of great help to solving the issues with creative burnout as insisting on continuing to create can worsen the issue.

Secondly, taking time to visit places such as museums, parks, zoos, and even as little as taking a walk could be of help. This is in addition to prioritising self care such as sleeping, eating well, and ensuring you visit the therapist.

Those are the measures that I practise each time that I felt a burnout, and it has always worked wonders for me.

Creative burnout is rough, especially when you want to create but just can’t seem to find the spark. It’s frustrating because forcing it usually makes things worse.

Sometimes, the best way to recharge is to take a real break, without the pressure of thinking, I should be making something. Try doing something that's completely unrelated to art, like gaming, reading, or getting outside. Inspiration often sneaks up when you’re not actively looking for it.

Also, doing something new that isn’t your usual medium or style can help, too. Watching movies with great cinematography, checking out comics, browsing art books, or visiting a museum can be refreshing. When we absorb what other creators are doing, it often reignites our own creativity.

Instead of pressuring yourself to create a big piece, just scribble freely, let your hand move without a plan. Removing the expectation to create something good can help reset your creativity. Personally, when I’m feeling burnt out, just writing random things helps me snap back.

I also recommend looking through your past work to see how far you’ve grown and improved. Sometimes, reworking or redrawing an old piece can help you get back into the groove.

Most importantly, remind yourself that you don’t have to create anything right now. Your creativity isn’t gone forever, it’s just taking a power nap. Try not to stress too much, as that only makes it harder to break through.

The key is to be kind to yourself while you ride it out. You’ll definitely get your spark back, probably when you least expect it.

Burnout happens to everybody except you if are a robot. Taking a break and stepping away for a while will solve it or you look for things that give you inspiration. For me. I explore nature or go to new places to get inspiration.

Going to nice places is very good when it comes to refreshing your mind. I will highly recommend that as well. However, it is necessary to note that it is not easy for anyone to overcome creativity burnout unless they put the efforts into doing that.
