An active and friendly community for virtual pets is my primary choice for a virtual pet platform. I think the Neopets community represents the best virtual pet community in my opinion. Users find endless engagement throughout the forums along with the best community support. I met outstanding people in that community because we regularly talk about our most cherished pets.

Against the popular opinion, I stand with Marapets being the most exceptional virtual pet community. The site's design delivers an excellent user experience while providing the best membership community for the players.

I think the term best all depends on the user’s preference, but in terms of traffic, users and features, Neopets is the best.

Their community has inspired an entire generation of developers and artists.

In terms of creativity and bridging the cap of innovation, Subeta also belongs here as they introduced the cash app feature onto the virtual pet industry along with human avatars.

Flight Rising is also doing quite well in terms of innovation and changing the industry.

Their mobile version and desktop version is innovative. It enables users to play the game well on mobile just like desktop users.

Their design hasn’t exactly changed over the years as it’s been the same for the past 10 years. However, it is easy to navigate, so you’re able to find all the core features without an issue.

Virtual Pet List is the best community for pet sites. It's been #1 for a very long time, and has been bringing life back into the virtual pet industry. I think VPL is a big reason why we see new virtual pet sites being developed.
Agreed.

It has brought back fond memories of my "pet" site and I have a collection of ideas off in a side-project folder to possibly work on one in my free time.

I was looking for the best template system to run as a base so I don't need to manage a ton of code, and had it down to two.

That said, I've been developing for XenForo for a couple of weeks now (longer if you include standalone "add ons" that don't interact with XenForo directly, but when you go to the /script.php, it'll run the XF code to do things). I've made 2 add ons that help my forum; one add on extends another add on as I didn't like how it functioned, so rewrote that section of the add on in my own add on (sounds weird to extend an add on, but it can be done) and another add on was just completed to automate replies on a cron job, which I'll tweak a bit and implement across all forums.

I've learned how functional XenForo is in its simplest form to extend to do just about everything. It already manages sign ups, mail, users, has user groups to execute different tasks, etc.

Suffice it to say, it's now on my shortlist to develop my pet site on.

Easy to modify a profile to show strength, endurance, etc., and disable the forum if I don't want a forum, or create a simple blog to post game updates to.

Compare that to a template system, you'd have to build up a bit more to get to where XenForo is.

/end rant

Am I going to be the first one to say it? @cpvr is too humble.

Appreciate the kind words, Virtual Pet List’s main goal has always been to uplift the entire community. We’ve referred thousands of players to pet sites and sim games listed in our directories over the years.

Our heart has always been with the community—especially the ones still building and creating in the virtual pets and sim niche. We've been the leading hub for years. Sure, we've been cloned and copied, but you can't replicate passion, history, or the kind of dedication we bring to the table.

As long as VPL is around(forever) this space will continue to grow. Pet games will have a louder voice, more visibility, and a stronger support system behind them.

In all sincerity, that’s true! Virtual petlist has been very consistent, and it's a vibrant committee for pet enthusiast to share ideas about their virtual pets. It's also a source of inspiration to so many virtual petsites. @cpvr is doing a great job. Keep it up!

Virtual Pet List winning the forum of the year at Forum Promotion is a testament of the great works that @cpvr has done in terms of creating a community where virtual pet lovers can come around and enjoy having a discussion about what virtual pets games are all about.

I see this community growing from strength to strength and hopefully winning more awards in the future.
