X/Twitter is launching a TV app

I sometimes miss regular TV channels. The only thing I can get here is a satellite downlink from a military feed (Armed Forces Network). They curate shows on their own channels, which isn't too bad.

However, there are a lot of shows I am missing out on if they don't go straight to streaming because of this.

I'm trying to find an app that won't charge an arm and a leg for some regular channels like History, Discovery, MTV, etc. The only thing I've found is YouTube TV, but it's like $60/month, and on top of YouTube Premium, it'd be closer to $75. That said, I would only be able to watch it on one of my TVs because it's a smart TV that allows me to download a VPN, which is always on so I can get American Netflix, Tubi, and Freevee.

Hopefully, this offers some channels for free.

I think it's a great idea! It will be nice bringing the wide-array of X/Twitter content to a large screen. It will probably give me access to some interesting feeds from their trending video to exclusives on a big screen .

For me, it seemed like it might be tough from a competition standpoint. There are so many platforms offering video content and the competition is steep.

That's what became the problem, in my opinion.

It was nice to have Netflix only for $10 a month. Then, studios started pulling their movies from the catalog and starting their own service for $10. If you add them all up, it'd be like a $70-100 cable subscription service.

I much would've preferred Netflix to raise their price to like, $40, and have the catalog grow much faster than all these other streaming services pop up. It makes it hard to manage which one to choose.

However, with all the services, you do have the ability to stream hop. In that, you can binge something on X for a month, cancel the subscription, then go to Y for a month, ultimately saving money from an increased Netflix subscription fee. Though, that seems like it would be annoying to manage to ensure you are canceled before the next billing cycle.

Elon claims he be releasing a payment app soon as well so we see how that goes.

This is kinda why he changed the name from Twitter to X. He plans to transform Twitter to an “everything app” and more than just a social media app that we’ve all grown accustomed too.

They’re getting closer to releasing the payment system though according to Techcrunch. X is getting closer to launching its payment service | TechCrunch

When Musk initially acquired the social networking app formerly known as Twitter, he envisioned a platform where users could store money in their X accounts, send payments to other users, and potentially access high-yield money market accounts.

The latest finding tells us the launch of a payment service is likely soon, which is in line with Musk’s previous goal of mid-2024, which he told Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood during an interview on X Spaces in December.

Additionally, the company has been making progress on obtaining money transmitter licenses, allowing it to engage in money transfers in the U.S. Last week, X payments (a wholly owned subsidiary of X) was granted a license in North Dakota, bringing the total number of states to 33. In July, it was approved in Alabama, California, and the District of Columbia. Others include Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia, and more.

Elon Musk is making a host of changes and I am having this fear whether it is an action that would be welcomed by many that are on the platform. Let's keep watching as things unfold.

Cheapest right now is $70, I don't think that price can come down.
I would do $70 if I could get the entire Netflix, Hulu, Prime, HBO, Peacock, etc. catalogs, especially if they include the "international" catalogs in the mix.

Example: Some movies are available on Netflix in Japan while they aren't in the US, and vice versa. The same goes with Hulu. I have one TV that never connected to a Japanese network (always behind a US firewall/VPN so it couldn't be "fingerprinted" as being elsewhere and possibly flagged) so I can watch Netflix Japan and US without issue; I just have to move rooms.

He def has the most expensive subscriptions compared to any other app that offer premium features I say that

You mean something like PayPal payment app? Wasn't he involved with PayPal before? I can't remember it correctly.
you are correct there
x.com did start as a banking site back in the early 2000s he was also involved with paypal.
