What do you think of the forum software? Have you used it as an owner or user? What themes and mods do you like for it? How would you compare it to other stuff?

Myself, I see big advantages in the sheer number of mods, but my beef with it is how My Alerts has gotten too difficult, and an alerts system is critical to any software.

I don’t like MyBB as a forum software. It hasn’t kept up with the times at all. The core software isn’t mobile-friendly, you have to install another theme just to make it mobile-friendly, which isn’t ideal.

The core software should be mobile-friendly by design.

It also lacks a built-in alerts system and push notifications, which I believe are essential features for forums to compete with social media these days. An alert system is a must-have feature for forum software. MyBB is missing core features that other platforms provide out of the box.

I think it would be something easy to improve, but it would take dedicated coders, but I'm guessing people won't do it for free nowadays.

And it has tons of potential and was once incredibly popular, probably cause of the large number of free mods

MyBB software offers some good customization features although it has challenges with its alert notification system. My search for an alternative forum software led me to examine ProBoards and Invision Community because they present well-organized notification systems.

I have used it and I had a forum on MyBB until recently. Compared to other open source platforms, I think MyBB looks little outdated, But the major benefit is it is easy to use

The main thing about Proboards is that you’re unable to transfer your database to your own host once you want to leave the platform, so you’re stuck with Proboards.

It’s not really an ideal situation unless you’d like to stay with Proboards, there are other platforms that allow you to transfer your database to other software if you’d like.
