The original founder of Minecraft has recently announced plans for a new game, which will serve as a successor to Minecraft.

He also mentioned that he’s open to collaborating with Microsoft to bring this project to life.

Following the results, Persson went on to talk about how he would take the route of building this Minecraft successor. He called making an official sequel "super illegal" because of Microsoft's IP ownership. However, he said the following about a potential official partnership: Notch wants to make Minecraft 2 and he is even willing to work with Microsoft

"If Microsoft, for some reason, would want me to do it, and we, somehow, agreed on the terms, I'd absolutely be willing do to that. I'd even give them a much bigger share than I'd feel obliged to just to make it clear I'm not doing it with ill intent.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see a new Minecraft game?

That's exciting news! It's a good idea that Notch is wanting to create a new game. That means a lot for the future. This willingness to work with Microsoft, knowing full well the issues in owning IP shows his passion in the project. Minecraft 2 can be a game with different innovations and mechanics with are not in the original.

Looks like he changed his mind and it’s not going to happen anymore:headbang:
However, unless Microsoft decides a sequel may be in order, then it’ll be released.

As for the poll conducted earlier by the developer, which showed 81% of the audience being more excited about a Minecraft-related project than a roguelike, Notch noted that the result wasn't as drastic as he had expected, as he thought over 90% of people would vote for a spiritual successor. He added that the team would "probably give it a shot had the outcome been significantly more biased towards what people think they want," with that last remark, unfortunately, making it yet another instance of a game developer questioning players' intelligence by implying that they don't know what they want.

This game does not need a sequel. I think Minecraft is a game that you can do so much with, and there's no merit for a sequel. It's a game that anyone can pick up, I think he only brought this up because of the movie that's coming out this year. Also I'm not a fan of the creator, and this again shows how arrogant some devs are. Plus spin offs exists and they're fine on their own but a direct sequel doesn't make sense.

I thought Notch would avoid working with Microsoft because of prior issues between them. If there is assurance of cooperation, then it might result into a great game. However, I’m not too sure of the extent of freedom that Notch would have on this project.
