It’s been just over a month since the global release of Marvel Rivals, the latest hero shooter from Chinese tech giant NetEase, and the game is already proving to be a massive hit. With its December 6 launch, Marvel Rivals has quickly climbed the ranks as one of the most successful games of the year, captivating players worldwide and raking in incredible revenue numbers.

A Look at Marvel Rivals’ First-Month Earnings
According to estimates from the Chinese media outlet GameLook, Marvel Rivals has generated impressive revenue across various platforms:

• Steam: Over 400 million yuan ($54.5 million), making it the game’s largest revenue stream so far.
• PlayStation 5: An estimated 200 million yuan ($27.2 million).
• Xbox Series X|S: Roughly 20 million yuan ($2.7 million).
• PC (via standalone client): Global revenue (excluding China) is believed to be close to $100 million.
• China-specific client: With NetEase operating the Chinese version, the total first-month revenue is estimated at 1 billion yuan ($136.4 million).

In total, the game has likely exceeded $136 million globally in its first month, a monumental figure for a new IP.

A Strong Start with Long-Term Potential:

Marvel Rivals launched with a peak of over 480,000 concurrent players (CCU) on Steam, making it the fourth biggest release of 2024 by peak player count. Even more impressively, the game continues to maintain an active player base, with daily peaks between 380,000 and 440,000 CCU.

The game has also been well-received by the community. On Steam, it holds a “Very Positive” (80%) rating from over 141,000 user reviews, a testament to its gameplay quality and appeal.

GameLook predicts that if NetEase can maintain steady live service updates through 2025, Marvel Rivals has the potential to become a global live service juggernaut, with an annual revenue target of 10 billion yuan ($1.36 billion).

Adding to NetEase’s Growing Portfolio:

Marvel Rivals is the latest addition to NetEase’s expanding lineup of live service hits, which already includes:

• Naraka: Bladepoint: A widely popular battle royale title.
• Once Human: Launched in 2024, it amassed 10 million players globally in its first month.
• Naraka: Bladepoint Mobile: Released in China last year and already a major success, with a global launch planned for 2025.

What Makes Marvel Rivals Stand Out?

Marvel Rivals blends fast-paced hero shooter mechanics with the iconic Marvel universe, allowing players to step into the shoes of their favorite superheroes and villains. The game’s polished gameplay, diverse character roster, and regular updates have helped it stand out in the crowded multiplayer market.

With strong revenue, a growing player base, and a “Very Positive” reception, Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be one of the defining games of this era. As NetEase continues to expand its influence in the global gaming market, Marvel Rivals may very well cement itself as a live service phenomenon.

What do you think about Marvel Rivals? Have you had a chance to play it yet? Let’s discuss!

I did not expect that Marvel Rivals will sell that big. I knew that having Marvel heroes as your game characters mixed with hero shooter gameplay was going to be a hit. The numbers are good and I expect that the game will continue to do well over the next few months.
