Would you say Linkin Park is rock? They are my favorite band from when I was a kid. My friends and I would jam out to them while we skateboarded. It was a blast!

They are definitely Rock and NU Metal of the early 2000s, Well their early stuff anyways.

I wasn't a fan of their newer material honestly, Chester loss is still extremely sad though.

They are usually categorized as alternative rock, however, they have created a variety of music from heavy metal and hip hop to electronica and pop.

That's basically on point.
They started as rap rock then went in to pop and other genres.

They fall within the various categories of rock, for sure, a few different labels, but they are essentially their own thing.

I heard they fell off when they went from Rock/Metal to Pop.

Because the metal fans moved on and the pop fans already had the kardashians.

Yeah, their later material did cost them a few fans, but I get why they did it, bands have to evolve to stay relevant. It's unfortunately they went so far into the pop field, but I do understand the logic behind it. It's fine to keep evolving your sound, but don't leave your long term core fans behind.

I love when bands evolve but they definitely did change their sound so much that hard-core Rock fans just couldn't do it anymore, Even as a Rock fan Heavy & One More Light are decent though.

I do agree with you though, Like they just wanted to change their sound and being a massive band, Pop seemed logical to them at all the time which from their point I do get it.

Whether they continue without Chester which still can't be answered they always be my favourite band regardless.

The first two albums especially did influence Metal to how we know it today.

Yeah, Hybrid Theory was fantastic and Meteora really put them on the map.

They're definitely fall under rock in my book, I believe they're considered alternative rock. I enjoy quite a few songs from Linkin Park, it's a shame that Chester is no longer with us though. 🙁

I listen to some Alternative radio stations and they're played on those, so I feel that they fall under that category. When I think of rock, I think of the basics and this is simply beyond that level.

Alternative is a subgenre of rock, as implied in the full name “alternative rock”. So I think some of you are splitting hairs going “they’re not rock, but they’re considered alternative”.

That’s like going “Street Fighter isn’t a video game, it’s a fighting game”. So… it’s still a video game…
