Bluesky has implemented its new videos section and you can sort through the network to watch videos if you prefer to do so. You can also customize this feature if you don’t want to see the videos on your feed.

The announcements were made late on Jan. 19 ahead of the short-lived US TikTok ban. "We had to get in on the video action, too," said Bluesky. The decentralized platform’s video feed is accessible from the Search tab on its mobile app. Here, users will find a new "Trending Videos" section, which they can pin to make it appear on the home screen or add to their list of feeds.

Since this is a custom video feed, standard feeds and posts "that contain video don’t automatically enter you into a video timeline," Bluesky says.

On Bluesky’s video feed, you can swipe up to move on to the next video and use a single tap to pause it. Alongside the regular buttons to like, share, comment on, and repost a video, you get a three-dot menu that opens up options to copy or translate the caption, mute the thread, words, or tags, or just tell bluesky if you want to see more or less of what you just saw.

If you don’t see the new video feed, Bluesky recommends “restarting your app once or twice to let the latest changes take effect.”

The enhanced video feature will definitely improves Bluesky users engagement. Now, it is possible to personalize our Bluesky feed through settings, so videos can appear or disappear from our news stream. Users now have the power to customize their Bluesky experience because the platform gives them complete control.

Things keep looking good for Bluesky. They are doing everything possible to get more people using the app.
They’re trending in the right direction. They recently surpassed 30 million members and in November, Bluesky had 9 million members.

Their growth rate looks good and it’s a lot easier to gain traction, especially if you’re connecting with others in your niche.

Currently, they don’t have an algorithm.

Yeah, I saw the update about how their user base numbers have skyrocketed in a short period of time. It's like what's happening with Threads too.

As of October, Threads has surpassed 275 million users. It holds a major advantage over Bluesky, as Threads content is viewable on both Instagram and Facebook.

Additionally, Instagram users are automatically connected to Threads with their existing username.

However, Threads and Bluesky are both apart of the Fediverse, so it’ll be interesting to see which platform manages to grow the most over the next couple of years.

I'll put my money on Threads growing bigger because of how it's connected to all Meta products. Bluesky is on its own which doesn't give it more to compete with.
