Reddit is rolling out its new feature, Reddit Answers, which aims to make answering users’ questions simpler and faster. This feature is powered by an AI interface similar to ChatGPT.

Reddit Answers uses AI to provide summarized information from across the platform to answer your questions.

In line with our mission to empower communities and provide human perspectives to everyone, starting today, we’re rolling out a test of Reddit Answers, a new way to get the information, recommendations, discussions, and hot takes people are looking for – on any topic – from real conversations and communities across all of Reddit.

With Reddit Answers, redditors can ask questions and receive answers using a new, AI-powered conversational interface. Once a question is asked, curated summaries of relevant conversations and details across Reddit will appear, including links to related communities and posts. Redditors can easily read relevant snippets and answers inline from real redditors, jump into the full conversations, and go deeper in their search with their own or suggested follow-up questions.

People know that Reddit has answers, advice, and perspectives on almost anything they're looking for, and AI-powered search is part of our longer-term vision to improve the search experience on Reddit – making it faster, smarter, and more relevant.

Reddit Answers is initially rolling out to a limited number of users in the U.S., with support currently in English; we plan to expand to additional languages and locations in the future. Redditors who want to learn more and be notified when the feature is available in their location can head here.
What are your thoughts on this new feature by Reddit? Do you think it’s a good move or a bad move on Reddit’s part?

Reddit’s conversational AI search tool leverages Google Gemini

Reddit answers, the platform’s conversational AI search tool, gets an upgrade through an integration with Google Gemini. This comes over a year after Reddit expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to access its Vertex AI platform to build AI agents.

Google and Reddit announced the update on Wednesday, explaining that by incorporating Gemini on Vertex AI, it will help improve search relevance and provide quick answers for users.

Reddit Answers has been in beta since December 2024 and allows users to ask questions and receive curated summaries of relevant comments and existing posts.

The feature is designed to keep users on the platform rather than search for threads on Google. By integrating Gemini, Reddit may better compete with OpenAI and other generative AI companies that utilize its data to train their chatbots.

Users have had mixed opinions about the feature, with some likening it to a “knock-off version of Grok AI,” X’s tool that has been known to generate misinformation in the past. Others believe it’s useful for providing a concise overview of generalized advice and insights from fellow users. For example, “how to clean rusty cast iron.”

Reddit Answers is currently available in English on the web and iOS devices in the U.S.

The Google Gemini integration is probably going to do much good in making searches easier and in giving quick answers. No doubt, this is going to enhance user experience.
